Scarred uses the motif of traditional Sudanese facial scarring to represent seen and unseen physical, emotional and mental scarring to create an object of beauty. The work is inspired by the beauty and strength of Sudanese women who live in a patriarchal society where many unacceptable traditions are still enforced on them, such as FGM.
